The history......

We came and settled in the Napa Valley from that northwest corner of Italy called "Friuli".
Arbe Garbe, literally “bad weeds”, is what we call the cover crops on the Friulian Colli
Orientali (“eastern hills“).
Friuli... a region that like the arbe garbe seems to have been there growing silently over the
centuries, quietly and discretely providing fertile ground to the Roman Empire, the Barbarians,
the Huns and the Austro-Hungarian Empire that over the centuries all came and planted their
roots there. A land of emigrants, silent crossroad of cultures. Sacred and pagan have been
living next door to each other, the people timorously gathering in the village churches
while the witches were said to be gathering in the woods.
Friuli hides in the Valleys of the Eastern Hills...its real essence, like its quiet population, is
concealed in the arcane valleys carved by the rivers of the Colli Orientali, Natisone and Torre.
These valleys are traditionally populated with peculiar wicked creatures that human are not.
Meantime the wine has been free flowing on every table of each household in every village, to our day.

In this same scenery last century, two philosophy students were paying for tuition picking
grapes in Jermann's vineyards. It was the mid nineties. In those long hours of work and
dream-sharing, they found many ideas in common. With Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Kerouak
and Toqueville whispering incessantly in the back of their minds, they lifted their deep roots
and left. He picked up his guitar and she nothing but love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
So they went to California.

Those days are long gone, but we preserved our deep roots and our dreams. Never ceasing to
work hard and with passion, we have eventually reconnected to our native culture through
the winemaking tradition.
All that we have seen and felt and envisioned we express in every step of the process that
brings this wine to life. We’ve always been enamored with the big Friulian white blends and
we wanted to pay homage to all of our cross-cultural heroes and their dreamy creations.
With the same hedonistic approach, we have created an everchanging blend that embraces
the melting pot we’re in and love, California, and the one we’ve left behind.

May wine open your heart,
